Providing PV, Pergolas and Planting
GIC prepared a detailed solar green roof feasibility report for the John Burns Primary School. Using our knowledge of biosolar green roofs, the report highlighted where potential green roofs could be installed to cool the school classrooms during heatwaves and where solar panels could be combined with the green roofs.
As the school has a few accessible roofs, we also provided some preliminary designs for biosolar ‘pergolas’ that could provide shade, outdoor planting and PV panels on these roofs. These pergolas, first designed and researched in Vienna, could also be used at ground level in the playgrounds to provide shelter for parents waiting for their children during heatwaves, as well as shelter for the pupils during play time.
We can provide support both technical and strategic for retrofitting biosolar roofs on most buildings in the UK.
